Chronology

The true history of Novendo is known only to the twenty Greater Immortals; the Telnori know and understand a close version of the truth; and a very few mortal scholars possess some fragmented sense of the true origins of human life on the planet. This Chronology gives the true version of history, but most natives, even scholars or arcanists, will have only the haziest idea of most events prior to the Demon’s Fist.

Where the “common knowledge” differs from the facts, a NOTE in green text will follow the entry, giving the more generally accepted version of history. All dates are given in the Salatasic Reckoning:  BD indicates years before the Demon’s Fist, SR indicates years after the cataclysm. Years are ziran years, not solar years.

The Ages of the World

The Natal Age: 2000-1000 BD

The Codominion: 1000-1 BD

The Age of Chaos: 1-1000 SR

The Imperial Age: 1000-2000 SR

The Age of Conquest: 2000-3000 SR

The Sixth Age: 3000+ SR

1,000,000 BD

Approximate date of the unknown cataclysm that wiped out almost all life on the planet that would come to be known to humans as Novendo. It is unknown if any of the sentient race native to the world escaped; if so, where they might have gone is equally a mystery. Only a few mysterious structures and artifacts remain of these so-called Ancients, and only microbial life, and a few small deep-sea life forms, survived.

c. 2500 BD

The United Nations of Earth send out five Arkships, each with a Command Crew of 21 in deep suspended animation and carrying genetic material from almost all forms of Terrestrial life. With the mounting population of Earth and the resulting degradation of her environment and depletion of resources, the goal is to ensure the ultimate survival of the human race by establishing terraforming colonies on planets of other stars.

2060 BD

Landfall on New Eden (or Novo Edeno in the Esperanto used by the crew) by the crew of the United Nations Arkship Atlantis. The ship has been damaged and the 21 members of the Command Crew have no idea of exactly where they are in the galaxy, nor how long they have been traveling. They have been changed by their long sleep and by their connection to the sentient computer system of the ship, gaining amazing powers and apparent immortality.

Orbiting a Sol-like star, Zira, the planet the ship has brought them to, while habitable, is barren and almost lifeless. It becomes evident, however, that it was once a thriving, living world that supported a sentient (and highly technological) race. The decision is made to begin terraforming the planet.

NOTE:  In the far distant past the world was ruled by the Ancients, a race of those first given the gift of self awareness by the Two-Who-Are-One, the Cosmic All. Some call them the First Gods, and this was just one of many worlds in the universe, each governed by its own races of Gods.

But the Ancients suffered from the terrible wars that arose when the First Gods learned conflict. Whole worlds were destroyed, others left crippled and dying. What exactly happened on Novendo is unknown; did civil war between the Ancients lay waste to their world? Were they set upon by rivals Gods? Many believe that is was they who first released the Demons into the world, wishing to use them as weapons against their enemies, but unable to control the chaos they unleashed. In the end they were forced to sterilize their world to cleanse it of the demonic taint, locking it away again in the Realms of Chaos whence it came. But did the Ancients all die in this last effort, sacrificing themselves, of did they flee, perhaps to return someday and reclaim their world…

Whatever the cause, the result was a dead and sterile world. When Agara and Arial, children of the First Gods of Arath, led the other Immortals from the wreck their own elders had made of that world, they journeyed for endless years between the stars, until they found this dead world. They revived it, and brought forth new life, and named it Novendo, for the shining new beginning it represented.

1040 BD

After more than a thousand local years, the terraforming of Novo Edeno has progressed enough that the decision is made to begin human population of the planet. The first step is the creation of the Telnori – based on human DNA that was corrected and perfected, they were given a long lifespan and low fertility. The first generation is raised by the Command Crew, who shape their culture as ecological guardians of the planet. They became the Crew’s partners in the final stages of the terraforming and on-going maintenance of Novo Edeno, and call themselves the Star Children.

1000 BD

The Codominion begins, the period of joint Immortal/Telnori civilization. In succeeding centuries it would be expanded to include the Khundari and the Umantari.

NOTE:  For an Age of the World the Immortals reigned over a peaceful world where Telnori, Umantari and Khundari lived in harmony and mutual support. This was known as the Codominion, the great Golden Age of the Immortals, when everyone knew magic, and there was no hunger or strife in the world.

812 BD

The Khundari are created by the Immortal Gheas, with the help of the fraternal twin brothers Kalos and Korön. Many of the other Crew are upset at this deviation from the base human stock, and discussions begin on what, exactly, should be allowed using human genetic code.

832 BD

The Khundari begin building the Eight Cities of Khundahar.

750 BD

The Immortals decide to begin the population of the planet with base human stock, and the first generation of Umantari are brought into being. The Telnori are the guardians of these children, guiding their early cultural development.

c. 500 BD

The peak of Codominion civilization, as colonies of Telnori, Umantari and, to a lesser extent Khundari, spread around the globe.

483 BD

Experimentation with an Ancient device breaches the interdimensional walls of reality and unleashes the Demon Hordes of Chaos into this reality. The extent of this disaster is not immediately clear, even to the Immortals.

NOTE: Umantari tradition has it that the first shadow fell on the Codominion when Edergal, a Khundari of surpassing skill, tampered with an Ancient artifact, unlocking a portal to the realm of pure Chaos, unleashing the Demon Hordes upon the world. The Khundari version has it that it was a Telnori Arcanist, Zhezwan, who was responisble for the release of the Demons, while the Telnori know (but do not speak of it to outsiders) that an Immortal caused the disaster and, along with Edergal, Zhezwan and two Umantari, became its first victim. A few non-Telnori scholars have uncovered ancient references to a “Nameless Immortal,” but know nothing of him (or her), although it has been theorized this being became Naventhül itself.

391 BD

Beginning of the Demon Wars. The strongest of the Demons, called Naventhül by the Telnori, gains enough power over its fellows to seize control and forge them into an army for a concentrated attack on Codominion civilization.

391-284 BD

The First Demon War.

284 BD

Cael and Korön destroy the physical form of the last of the  Demon Lords, Naventhül itself. Many of the demons are banished back to their own dimension, but at least as many remain on this plane, although in non-corporeal form.

280-138 BD

The Watchful Years. Sporadic, uncoordinated attacks occur across the globe. Codominion civilization enjoys a second, lesser expansion.

138-136 BD

The False Calm. Demon attacks around the world cease. Many believe that the invaders have finally been beaten back, ejected from our reality. In fact, Naventhül and his strongest minions have regained form and begun to harness the lesser demons into a new army. They have gained dangerous insights into the physical world, by absorbing so many Umantari, Khundari, and even Telnori souls, while still retaining their alien, chaos-driven mind-set.

136-1 BD

The Second Demon War. The alien invaders are more organized and wreak tremendous damage on Codominion civilization. Eventually the tide seems to turn, and the Immortal Host steadily press the Demonic Horde to a final, climactic battle on the Plain of Summer.

1 BD

The Madness of Korön.

 12 Emblio 1 BD

The Final Battle/The Demon’s Fist. Naventhül allows its forces to be brought to the final battle so as to execute its long planned end-game. For years it has slowly altered the course of a large asteroid, and on the day of the Final Battle it brings the great stone down on the City of the Immortals. The Immortals are unable to avert the disaster, but do manage to mitigate the very worst of the impact.

The northwestern portion of the Ysgareth continent is shattered in a massive upheaval that lasts for two years before gradually settling into the current islands of the Shattered Sea. Fully half the planetary population is killed in the first few days of the cataclysm, and half of the survivors die over the next five years. The physical forms of the Demons are again destroyed, a miscalculation on the part of Naventhül.

1-5 SR

The Endless Winter. The cloud of dust and debris thrown up by the asteroid impact circles the globe, blocking much of the sunlight from reaching the surface of the planet. Vegetation begins to die, and the ripples flow up the food chain; glaciers and the north polar ice cap begin to grow; only the powers of the Immortals prevent complete devastation and total extinction.

107 SR

The Immortals complete the geologic stabilization of the planet, and the restoration of the biosphere. They form the surviving Telnori into a corps of ecological guardians (which will eventually evolve into the modern Druids) to maintain the still-fragile grip of Terrestrial life on Novendo. Umantari civilization has dropped into a paleolithic state across most of the globe; only a few areas where the Telnori were able to help have the survivors maintained even a semblance of civilization.

c. 100-500 SR

Cults form around each of the Immortals; the divisions between wielders of the T’ara harden along religious/secular lines. By the end of the 5th Century the Ky’lorkia have been established, while secular wielders of the T’ara have formed into various schools of the T’ara Kul.

c. 200-300 SR

The Telnori lead the still semi-civilized descendants of the survivors of Ingram over the Worldspine Mountains and out into the islands of the Shattered Sea. They establish a primary culture on the island of Oceania.

324 SR

The Khundari Migration begins when a series of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions force the final abandonment of the Eight Cities of the Khundari.

355 SR

The island city of Avantir is founded.

515 SR

Thula of Oris formally proposes his theory of organizing principles for the wielding of the T’ara. His thoughts are gathered into seven scrolls that bring together and elucidate the principles that have been slowly forming for centuries, bringing them into sharp focus.

847-1016 SR

The T’aran Wars, also called the Chaos Wars. Wizard-Kings across the planet unleash increasingly devastating energies in a series of wars of dominance. The Cults of the Immortals take a fractured stance in these years, some opposing all the mageocracies, others siding with one or another of the wizard factions at different times. The Immortals finally intervene after the destruction of the land of Kahir-Tamor in a cataclysm that threatens the hard-won stability of the planet.

982 SR

The consolidation of the petty island kingdoms of Oceania under the rule of Valosin The Great, beginning the era of the High Kings of Oceania and the greatest flowering of Umantari civilization since the Demon’s Fist.

1015 SR

The rival mageocracies of Thardol and Vorkin, in the land of Kahir-Tomar, east of the Sarajis Mountains, meet in a titanic battle of wizard armies, resulting in the destruction of both nations and the formation of the Hidden Sea. The Thardoli city of Tritanus is the only thing to survive the inundation of the land, when the Archmage Kanius encases it in a dome of energy. But he cannot maintain the shield forever, and begins the process of mutating his people into beings capable of surviving beneath the waves – the Tritani, or Merfolk.

1016 SR

The Immortals descend in power on the remaining wizard realms, to end the strife before the planet is torn apart. Some mages surrender, others fight to the death, but in the end they are all overthrown, and an exhausted peace settles over the world.

1017 SR

The Judgement of Shala, which comes after seven months of debate amongst the Immortals about what to do with the Umantari T’ara Kul. Taking place in the land of Daishia, both Telnori and Umantari sages and leaders are allowed to testify. The debates are long and heated, with many leaning towards the utter destruction of the T’ara Kul and the banning of T’aran Knowledge from the Umantari. But others point out that not all T’ara Kul were guilty of abuses of power; indeed, many had struggled against their power-mad brethren.

In the end it was a mortal who offered up an acceptable solution. It was formulated by one of the greatest surviving T’ara Kul, Yana of Krystor. Throughout the Judgement Yana had sought some way to convince the Immortals that the Umantari could govern the T’aran Knowledge wisely. The plan that he proposed to Shala, the Immortal Patron of Knowledge, matched her own ideas on the subject, and she urged her fellow Immortals to consider it. In the end, much of Yana’s plan was adopted, and the final result became known as The Judgement of Shala (also known as The Judgement of Daishia) and to this day the Strictures of Yana govern the use of the T’ara by the Umantari T’ara Kul almost everywhere on Novendo.

1024 SR

The First Council of Avantir. In the aftermath of the Age of Chaos, and with the schools of the T’ara Kul forming, the various Cults of the Immortals meet to find common ground. The fractious nature of their relationships in the past made them less effective than they might’ve been in opposing the tyranny of the wizard-kings, and they wish to prevent that from happening again. It takes three years, but eventually a unified Church is forged.

1027 SR

The Eldaran Church is formally declared in Avantir, uniting the 20 cults of the Greater Immortals into one great alliance.

1027-1048 SR

The Church makes a coordinated effort to establish temples in the major cities of Ysgareth, around the Galean Sea, and even as far away as eastern Ishkala, as well as in Oceania. Strains begin almost immediately, as several cults continue to press their own agendas ahead of those of the Church Entire, most notably the Cults of Korön and Zelist.

1152 SR

After the debacle of the Two Moons Festival in Daishia, the Cults of Korön and Zelist are officially proscribed at the Council of Kovanar; their adherents are forced to go underground or face both legal sanctions and social persecution.

1181-1184 SR

The First Archipelago War. The Alliance of the Three Kingdoms resists the expansion of the High Kingdom of Oceania. The Alliance makes early gains, going so far as to occupy the northern part of the island of Oceania, but internal conflicts prevent them from building on their victory. By 1184 the High Kingdom had recovered all its lost lands, but is unable to subdue the Three Kingdoms.

1191-1197 SR

The War of the Wyverns (First Oceanian Civil War) results in the dissolution of the High Kingdom, and begins a generation of strife amongst the islands of Oceania.

1224 SR

Arkahzan the Golden, King of Tor Andar, begins his drive to unite the Archipelago. He is the direct descendent of the last universally recognized High King of Oceania. This legitimacy combines with miltary genius to give him an amazing string of conquests and diplomatic victories that culminate in the unification of most of the island chain under one crown, including the Three Kingoms.

1231 SR

At sunrise on Kristala Va Arkahzan is crowned Emperor of the Ocean Empire, founding the Telin Dynasty. The first coins used on Novendo since the Codominion are minted at Avantir, ushering in a new age of commerce and economic growth.

1232-1253 SR

The Ocean Empire expands, through diplomacy and alliance where possible, through military conquest where necessary. Kunya-Kesh joins the Empire through the marriage of the Hetman’s eldest daughter, Galirna, to Arkahzan. First colonies are founded on the Wild Coast, then called Agiramoth.

1391 SR

The Telnori Purges of the Istarin Pretendership.

1401 SR

The Telin Restoration and the Telnori Renewal.

1552 SR

The Second Council of Avantir formalizes the separation of the Cults of Drina and Kalos from the Church Entire, although without prejudice. Both will remain loosely associated with the Church, and are still considered of the Eldari.

1605 SR

The Telin Dynasty’s rule reaches its greatest extent with the establishment of a colony in the Kadaran Valley on the shores of the Sea of Storms. The Empire now reaches from the coastal plains of Näalskelu in the north to the Sea of Storms in the south, and from the Shattered Sea in the west to the nearer coastal areas of the Galean Sea in the east.

1731-1736 SR

The Second Oceanian Civil War begins when Ildalon IV dies without issue. After five years a distant cousin gains enough support to take a shakey throne as Ulek III.

 1741 SR

Oceanian Emperor Ulek III is asassinated during a Kristala Va feast. The islands of the former Three Kingdoms sieze the opportunity to split from the Empire, setting off the Second Archipelago War.

 1741-1772 SR

The Second Archipelago War is a sporadic but devestating conflict that drags on for more than 30 years before sputtering out into a series of smaller local skirmishes over the next century. The last legitimate claimant to the Coral Throne dies in battle in 1753, and with her heir believed lost at sea the previous year, the Coral Throne sits empty and the Empire is ruled by the Imperial Regent.

 1753-1897 SR

The First Interregnum. Petty island kingdoms rise and fall throughout the Archipelago for almost 150 years as the grip of Avantir and the Regents slowly fails.

 1755 SR

Denying the authority of the Imperial Regent,  Tor Andar breaks from the remains of the Empire when the Earl of Andara declares himself Elmonir the First, King of Tor Andar.

 1772 SR

The Ocean Empire, now ruled by an hereditary Lord Regent, is at it’s nadir, consisting only of the island of Oceania itself and a handful of nearby smaller islands.

 1897 SR

The current Regent of Oceania, Holmin Torthig, sets aside his regency when a direct descendant of the Lost Heir is discovered and her claim is proved valid. Arianna Peltagin takes the Coral Throne as Arianna the First, founding the Peltagin Dynasty.

1898-1942 SR

The Peltagin Restoration. Empress Arianna spends the bulk of her reign working to reunite the lands of the old Empire. Her preferred tools are diplomacy and persuasion, and military force is used only when Imperial forces are attacked first. By the time she abdicates in favor of her son, Wendothir III, in 1932, almost all of the islands of the Archipelago have been brought under Imperial rule once again. The primary exceptions are the Three Kingdoms, whose ever-fractious nobles reject even a consideration of alliance with Oceania.

1944 SR

Wendothir III follows his mother’s lead in his efforts to bring the Empire back to it’s full glory, by marrying Elhara the Fair, only child of the King of Tor Andar. When the king dies three years later, Tor Andar formally becomes a part of the Empire once more.

1965 SR

Wendothir III dies when his ship is lost during a terrible storm in the Gulf of Kildora. The 20-year-old son of Wendothir and Elhara takes the throne as Alohar the First. His mother takes up the rule of Tor Andar as a vassal queen while he concentrates on the needs of empire.

1966 SR

The Short War. Alohar is less inclined than his father and grandmother to rely solely on diplomacy to further his aims, and when one of the Three Kingdoms provides the young ruler with one of their regular provocations, he siezes the opportunity to solve the Northern Problem once and for all. He manges to capture the Eolopian capital, the port city of Terrik, in a swift and surprising night attack. When the other kingdoms, shocked and outraged, gather their fleets to attack in kind, the Ocanian fleets ambush them in Thunder Bay and destroy them in detail. The King of Kashula and the Crown Prince of Quensyn both die in the battle. In less than a month all three islands are brought to terms, and once again become a part of the Empire.

2029 SR

Alohar I dies peacefully in bed, having reunited much of northern Ysgareth under Imperial rule during his eventful 64-year reign.

 c. 2400 SR

The Ocean Empire reaches it’s second peak of influence, controlling the Archipelago, southeastern Näalskelu, the Wild Coast and Musira, the lands west of the Savage Mountains, and much of the Ukali Basin. The Imperial hand lies lightly on Tarisea, whose tribal peoples resist civilization, though the region is oficially claimed.

2486 SR

Pürshok Vindu, a mage of some repute, becomes Governor of the Oceanian province of Darikaz, while Gülvini tribes begin to harass the mountain borderlands of the northern provinces and dragons appear in great numbers in the Savage Mountains; rumors of a mysterious Necromancer begin to circulate throughout the North.

2504-2510 SR

The Great War. Forces allegedly manipulated by Korön through his followers (particularly in the person of the Necromancer, who is revealed to be Pürshok Vindu) begin their assaults on the Free Peoples. From Darikaz, Tür Kovan and the Savage Mountains armies of men, Gülvini and fell beasts ravage northern Ysgareth.

2508 SR

The Desolation of Serviana; the Lirilarian Odyssey.

 2510 SR

The Battle of Harkathir, and the defeat and death of the Necromancer. Founding of the City-State of Azdankür by the survivors of Lirilar.

2511-2516 SR

The Violet Death first appears in eastern Ysgareth, and the plague quickly spreads around the Galean Sea to large parts of western Ishkara. It is believed by many to be the result of the dying curse of the Necromancer. Over a third of the population in afflicted areas die before the contagion fades. Lesser outbreaks occur sporadically around the Galean Sea over the next century, before the disease seems to disappear.

 2511-2578 SR

Despite the defeat of Vindu and the forces of Korön, the Empire is severely crippled and begins a slow, sporadic withdrawl from the Ukali Basin, Tarisea and Musira.

2518 SR

Shalara is founded on the ruins of Brinthor/Vindus-Anol.

2578-2785 SR

The Hundred Kingdoms period. Countless petty kingdoms rise and fall throughout much of the north, especially around the Sea of Ukalus. This fractured political landscape, especially in the south, leaves the region ripe for an external conquest.

2578 SR

The Kingdom of Nolikor is declared by Kirdek I.

2618 SR

The Delfari Empire is decalred by Medelik Peltagin, a descendant of Oceanian royalty who becomes Medelik I.

2624 SR

The Third Republic of Lothkir joins the Delfari Empire

2660-2675 SR

The Nolkior Civil War.

2704 SR

Assassination of King Rudir of Nolkior, and the Resoration of the the House of Kelen, which is renamed Rokelen.

2764 SR

Balar-Zal is born into a tribe of Garlini horsemen on the Sun Plains north of the Sea of Storms.

2785 SR

Jirela Peltagin comes to the Onyx Throne, bringing with her the malign influence of her long-time advisor Kolturin the Astrologer, a covert follower of Naventhül.

 2785-2796 SR

The Garlini Invasion. The nomadic barbarian horsemen of the Sun Plains are united under the banner of the charismatic young warchief Balar-Zal, who leads them north in a sweeping campaign of conquest. The city-states of the Lake Jeval region are the first to fall, but are soon followed by all the petty realms of central Ysgareth up to the southern shore of the Sea of Ukalus and the Karac foothills. Only the city-state of Azdankür is able to resist the barbarian hordes, though most of its hinterland falls to the horsemen.

2774 SR

Balar-Zal takes the great city of Golmortha, cultural and political heart of the Ukali Basin for centuries. Renaming the city Ka’Balar, he declares the Garlini Empire and has himself crowned as Emperor.

2812 SR

Empress Jirela slips into a coma; Kolturin the Astrologer becomes Regent of the Delfari Empire, enacting increasingly bizarre and oppressive measures, including the building of a city, Nirokilon, on the Orikol Moor.

2816 SR

Empress Jirela dies; all her legitimate hiers have predeceased her, most rather mysteriously. Kolturin siezes control and declares the Second Mageocracy. Two years of civil war ensues before he is in firm control of the Empire. Open rituals to Naventhül are allowed, as are Korönian spectacles and executions, cowing a terrified populace.

2836 SR

After 20 years of increasing madness and growing irrationality in the former lands of the Delfari Empire, Kolturin is deposed by Korönian leaders and supposedly buried alive in Niroklion. The Second Mageocracy quickly dissolves in bloodshed and chaos.

2837 SR

The Kingdom of Arushal is founded by Dorikon I. He will spend the rest of his long life expanding and securing the borders of his realm.

2839 SR

Tydaka Zelin is born in Ka’Balar.

2854-2863 SR

The Red Death strkes the Ysgareth continent, moving from the northwest, in Oceania, to the southeast. When it finally peters out, anywhere from 10% to 40% of the Ysgarethi population is dead. The plague grew more virulent as it moved south; in Oceania and the northern Ukali the deal toll was 10-15%, while in Tür Kovan it reached 60% in some provinces.

2856 SR

Still vigorous and commanding, Emperor Balar-Zal dies at the age of 91 in a fall from a horse, whilst hunting. His three grandsons immediately begin to vie for the Leopard Throne, Garlini tribal customs of inheritance never having been successfully integrated with the feudal laws of the lands they conquered.

2856-2862 SR

The Collapse of the Garlini Empire, as the internicine struggles between the Royal cousins, bad weather, poor harvests, and plague combine to create rebellion and chaos. The final nail in the coffin comes when the Imperial Cavalry, Garlini tribsemen never assimilated into northern civilization and the backbone of the Imperial Army, abandon all the claimants to the Leopard Throne and return to their southern plains and a simpler life… and, some say, to await another leader worthy of them and their pride.

2862 SR

The Martyrdom of Tydaka. The prophet of a new religion, who has been preaching against the secular government and performing miracles, finally gains the attention of the government and is tried and executed for sedition and treason. Her quartering (the official form of state execution of the Garlini Empire) sparks the final convulsion of rebellion that destroys the imperial state. From the pieces rise the Theocracy of the Faith, the Kingdoms of Tolus, Meriada, and Felingar, and a host of petty princedoms.

2865 SR

Founding of the Caelite fighting Order of the Bronze Shield by King Dorikon I in Arushal.

2869-2871 SR

The Ox War, the first of many skirmishes between Tolus and the Theocracy over their shared border.

2871 SR

In a dispute over the throne of Meriada, the northern lands break away, forming the new Kindom of Orisu.

2875 SR

The Khundari United Realms of Karac divests itself of the southern lands it aquired during the imperial disintegration, allowing the formation of the Kingdoms of Bynar and Vonkal.

2894 SR

Tolus absorbs the smaller Kingdom of Felingar when its ruling queen dies without heirs. There is some dissent among the nobility over the annexation, but it is suppressed without major conflict.

2897 SR

The Baronial Revolt in Nolkior.

2918-2923 SR

The Five Year War between Arushal and the Kildoran Republic results in the loss of two castles to Arushal, and the Republic gaining one.

2960 SR

The Bellanin Tournement of Chivalry is founded in Nolkior.

2970-71 SR

The Salt War btween the Kildoran Republic and the Kingdom of Nolikor; it ends with a Nolkiori victory and trade concessions from the Republic.

2973 SR

The Treasure War between Nolkior and Tharkia. Nolkior overwhelms the smaller state, King Balen flees into exile in Serviar.

2976 SR

Tharkia becomes an earldom of Nolkior, under the Crown.

2980-2995 SR

Zarik’s War, begun by the Korönian Order of the Iron Claw against the lands of the Caelite Order of the Bronze Shield, draws Darikaz and Arushal into a fight that will last 15 years, see the deaths of four monarchs, and leave Darikaz on the brink of civil war.

2985 SR

Exiled King Balen of Tharkia raises an army and regains his throne; now both Nolkior and Serviar have claims to his crown, which actually helps to keep Tharkia free, as the two larger powers are not interested in war with one another.
